We surround ourselves with friends, family, significant others, mentors, colleagues . . . but very few of these people really know us. How many people in your close circle really get you? How many understand your unique and complex personality? Your needs? Wants? Desires? Behavior? Are you feeling, well, misunderstood ?
If so, you have lots in common with Customer 2.0, our target audience in this sales millennium. They are the most complex customer to understand because they are independent, skittish, and difficult to nail down. Just when you think you are making inroads with them, they change their mind. They are not monogamous, yet they crave a deep relationship. So what’s the right move?
I believe it’s all about the love: following-up and acknowledging them. Here’s what I mean.
My sister shared the following letter with me that she received from the founders of the company she works for, acknowledging her four years of work with them. The subject line of the email read: Sandi We Want to Say 400 Thanks For Your Hard Work!
Dude!
There was a day, nearly FOUR YEARS ago, which was recorded in the Beachbody history books – a day which signified a new beginning, presented a life-changing challenge, and culminated in a powerful personal decision. The date?
Monday, May 14, 2007
Do you recognize it?
On that day, you – Sandi – DECIDED to become a Dude – an ambassador of personal growth and the member of an outstanding organization dedicated to helping people change their lives for the better . . .
On that day, you COMMITTED yourself to a great challenge – the challenge of making a great organization even greater not only by joining our award-winning team, but by pledging to bring on a daily basis what only YOU could bring – your unique combination of skills, vision, passion, and personal determination . . .
And beginning on that day, and for the last FOUR YEARS, you have more than SUCCEEDED in meeting this challenge. Having demonstrated time and time again the initiative and passion to consistently deliver on your promises, you have SUCCEEDED not only in helping to make Beachbody one of our nation’s leading providers of personal growth solutions, but you have, by bringing the unique and outstanding qualities that only YOU can bring, SUCCEEDED in making Beachbody a more extraordinary place to work . . . and THAT is something that we (and the rest of us Dudes) are very grateful for indeed.
Thanks, Sandi, for all your hard work and dedication. And as a humble token of our thanks, please accept the forthcoming ANNIVERSARY AWARD of $400 (a hundred bucks per year of service), which will be included in your 5/5/2011 paycheck.
All the Best.
It works! Take some time to think about retention and appreciation strategies, and improve your Customer 2.0 relationships.
