It’s no surprise that more competition surfaces during challenging times- but why do they all have to look so desparate? They are pathetic- they pop out of nowhere, making claims and false promises they can never deliver on.
Your prospects have more choices today with products and solutions but these choices just serve as noise in the decision-making channel. Prospects are forced to make smarter decisions and tap into their values and beliefs. Whether their value is to support the tried and true or to cave to the lowest price.
An example is my favorite bookstore in San Francisco, Stacy’s which is closing in a few weeks after 85 years. This bookstore had the best selection of technical and non-fiction books in the bay area. Another bookstore has to bit the dust because of Barnes and Noble or Amazon.
I’m avoiding and walking away from any talk about the E.D. (Economic Downturn) because it doesn’t accomplish anything and sets me up with too much negativity. That’s why I was so happy to read John Jantsch’s blog post announcing the week of March 9-13 as Make a Referral Week.
That’s right, if you are tired of the E.D. talk, then become part of the solution. And this goes to a great cause- small businesses; they are the backbone of our economy. The goal is for 1000 businesses to provide 1000 referrals during this week. In addition to that, the best panel of experts will be assembled so sign up and support this cause.
