Cubicle Chronicles: Productivity and motivational tips for inside sales warriors. By Josiane Feigon.

Forget carpooling when you can ride to work

Was that you on the corner of Market and 10th? or perhaps you were having coffee at the Energizer Station where everyone cheered us on this morning. Whew, so glad I didn’t drive in. I now feel part of a new sub culture, one that forgets to remove the velcro strap from the bottom of my jeans and one that rants about clueless drivers or engages in hearty discussions on which bike paths are flatter than others in the city.

I recently moved my office across town and had the choice of taking public transportation, driving my car or riding my bike. It’s all about the bike these days - and it is refreshing to be doing something where I am not pounding on a keyboard or texting or talking on the phone. Well I have to admit I’ve been known to talk and ride sometimes.

Why is it smart to ride to work? Here are my top 10 reasons:

1. You get your daily dose of being outside in the fresh air and expand your carbon footprint

2. You gain renewed respect from those around you who think you are incredibly fit

3. You pick up speed on courage so when you get in the office you can bravely prospect for new business

4. You don’t feel bad about eating a huge lunch because you are going to work it off

5. You become more aware of streets, directions, vehicles and weather.

6. You incease your level of focus and concentration- uber alert.

7. You have random conversations with people you normally wouldn’t chat with such as crossing guards, bike messagers and police officers

8.  There’s no bike rage like there is road rage

9.  It’s social networking at it’s best because you feel like you are part of the bigger community

10. If you like to fly under the radar, move fast and be on your own terms- cycling is for you.
