Cubicle Chronicles: Productivity and motivational tips for inside sales warriors. By Josiane Feigon.

Get me some lunch Dorothy

My daughter is an urban dweller- she loves cities. Born and raised in San Francisco, she has made her college and summer choices around living in major Metropolitan cities. Paris happened earlier this year with a semester abroad and now she is living and working in Manhattan.

She accepted an internship with a fast-growing  boutique PR firm- their NY office has all these next-generation technology clients. She is learning all about working full-time hours, managing multiple projects,  eating lunch at her desk, writing client pitch letters and press releases. When she called me from her Starbucks run  to complain this wasn’t in her “job description,” I reminded her she needed to pay her dues, prove herself and be a team player.

In preparing for her first day on the job, she asked me what “business casual” meant -and if wearing her silk strapless short dress with her patent leather black belt was acceptable. “No bare shoulders, don’t show too much skin” I responded.

We didn’t have the footwear talk- that means the ones that discourages wearing flip flops to work. She bought her first pair of business shoes-  these sparkly ruby red flats that are so “perfect” for work. No doubt, her shoes are a big hit and her new nickname in the office is  “Dorothy” especially when she is given a new project or a deadline it’s delivered with a warm and nostalgic smile because they know Dorothy can do it. dorothy1

What’s your Dorothy move? What makes others smile and makes you memorable? How do you create a little spark in the day and become more approachable?
