Cubicle Chronicles: Productivity and motivational tips for inside sales warriors. By Josiane Feigon.

Don’t be shy about winning

When was the last time you did some guilt free shopping? Being conservative about our spending is what dominates our thinking these days. We all look for ways to reduce spending and hunker down during this time.

We are finally seeing signs of life as things are opening up in a small way. When a new job, a closed deal, a promotion finally comes your way, which it will, how will you show your gratitude and appreciation?

Will you let them see you sweat? Will you tell them how badly you’ve wanted it? Will you sit on your 9th job interview with the same company and say to them “I really need this job, I have blown through my savings, taken in a room-mate and I’m walking dogs on weekends just to pay for my groceries?”

What about the deal you have been chasing for months? The one you discounted so heavily that your margins are suffering? When you finally get that deal- how much relief will you show?

The term the “walking wounded” has been used in the past to describe people who have survived corporate layoffs and are still standing. We need a new terms now such as the “walking fearful” or the “walking paralysed.” That describes how some may be walking around calm and cool but inside they are crumbling and overtaken by fear. Money fears, job fears, family fears, health fears.

We show up at networking meetings and are tempted to write “HIre Me Now” on our nametag instead of our names. We cringe at the sound of one more person saying “there’s a glut of talent out there right now” or “our budgets are frozen” because we know we are impacted.

So when you get a small win- celebrate, don’t be shy. Show the world how badly you’ve wanted it and express your excitement about winning. The future is looking bright from now on.
