Cubicle Chronicles: Productivity and motivational tips for inside sales warriors. By Josiane Feigon.

Is Twitter Replacing the Phone?

Had lunch in North Beach with Anneke Sealy, the author of Sales 2.0: Improve Business Results Using Innovative Sales Practices and Technology and owner of PhoneWorks. I have partnered with PW for years- they build inside sales organization and my company builds the talent. Great match.

We both started our companies around the same time with the same vision= to spread a “must-have” solution for fast growing global inside sales organization and create new possibilities through better processes, implementation and talent development.

We are both pioneers in the field, Anneke was one of the first 15 employees to start Oracle Direct telesales organization and I was in telesales with publications such as InfoWorld and Communications Week. We remember the days when the phone was the most underutilized business tool out there.

Then the ”T” word came up in our discussion and we both braced ourselves for this Twitter Tsusami that is moving faster than we can know what to do with it.

Anneke has been tweeting for awhile and sent tweets from the recent Sales 2.0 conference. I’m on Twitter and managed to start following a crowd- is it the right crowd or the wrong crowd? Who knows? Now I’ve got a crowd following me- I just let everyone in and don’t know what to do with them. Then I wondered who the famous follow and found the Inner Circle of Geek heroes on Twitter.

Listening to Ingrid Michaelson Sing a Twitter tune, gets me energized because it perfectly describes the light, fun, fresh feeling one has when they tweet. Following Lance Armstrong around and checking in with him after his broken collarbone to learn what he had for dinner is doing what for me?

I thought I had the phone mastered and now I’m wondering if I’m Twitter worthy- please follow me (JosianeSF) on the TweetDeck.

  1. I say, “let’s keep our minds open!” I am asking all my innovative business friends and contacts about their experiences on Twitter. One person who sells B2B services told me he has received several qualified leads on Twitter. Some customers prefer phone, some e-mail, and some social media for communications. Our job as Sales 2.0 professionals is to sell in the way the customer wants to buy.

Let’s share Twitter sales success stories!
