“Tell me now, I can handle it.” These are the words spoken from someone who has waited so long to hear the words “yes you got it” or “no I’m sorry.” Its’s a part of life whether you remember your college application process like some high school graduates this year or you waited 8 months to be part of a Chorus Line.
Salespeople put this special raincoat when it comes to getting rejected and fielding objections, they are more rugged about it because they have crossed the sales terrain and it’s just not that bad. Perhaps it’s more because it’s not that important. What I mean is when a salesperson has a healthy pipeline, they can take rejection much easier than when their pipeline is barely thin and they are worried.
On the other hand, good salespeople don’t want to ever lose so being rejected is just not an option. I heard an inspiring interview about Mike Tyson, who has a documentary out that I would like to see. Tyson grew up always being bullied and was incredibly fearful of those around him. He turned his fear inside out and that was his adrenaline that got him to become the heavyweight champion of the world. Now Tyson has done some pretty extreme things in his day. Watch his eyes in this trailor, he terrifies his opponent only to realize how his own fear is what is he hiding behind.
Rejection is about facing fear- looking at it in the eyes and moving closer to it and understanding it.
