My magic carpet ride in twenty-ten

I don’t know about you but I’m thrilled to move through this dismal decade. It’s one thing saying good-bye to a year that has passed but an entire 10 years. Sure- why not.

This New Years eve, I did something I haven’t done in many years. I ate this brownie which I thought tasted really good and even asked if it had walnuts or pecans in it. It also had……well you can imagine the rest of my evening was filled with electric music, brilliant colors, loud voices and lots of laughter.

I have never been good at doing any type of substances- I’m way too nervous and have an extremely sensitive system. How did I survive the peer pressured high school years? I pretended to be stoned but wasn’t - no really, it’s not that I was some loser that stayed home but close to it, I spent many years in intense ballet classes with some neurotic and dysfunctional Balanchine prima ballerina gone bad after falling on stage type teacher. Good times.

Actually, I’m better off when I’m not doing any substance and can keep you company instead of giving me too much to drink, smoke or snort. Not that I will totally embarass you but that’s when my imaginary friends come out and play. Suddenly I have way too much to think about- its like that little voice inside me has found a new gang to hang with.

I find many things surprising these days- especially when my friends are getting high with their kids. Since most of these kids in our circle of friends are turning 21- that’s license for some to sit down and smoke a few bowls together. I rather lay in the sun on a beach in Mexico with my 21 year old and share sunsreen instead of substances.

I am so ready for this year to begin and to continue my magic carpet ride- last year, my book took me to the coolest places, partnering with the most talented people and learning more than I ever realized in the publishing world. See you in twenty-ten
