It is the beginning of the new year and time for a second chance at something. I set goals at the beginning of each new year and here’s a peak at who I want to be in 2007:
1. Be a student–take time to learn something different. Register for a weekend writing workshop, take an 8-week parenting class, go on a yoga retreat, join a cycling group or take golf lessons.
2. Be bold–flex your competitive muscle and learn to stand-out by distinguishing yourself.
3. Be inquisitive–ask questions until it hurts and then more. Move away from operating on your assumptions and take an extra second to ask why and how and when and who and what and do you mean it?
4. Be active–your brain and body need energy and oxygen on a daily basis.
5. Be mindful–act with grace, kindness and all those things your grandmother once told you about.
6. Be patient–things are moving at nano-second speed but decision-making and research take time to digest. Sales is still based on the timing being right so let your customer’s agenda rule not yours.
7. Be financially savvy–the key to becoming a millionaire is to think about your financials on a daily basis. Get rid of your credit card debt, feed your retirements accounts and save those commission checks.
8. Be relevant–stay current and keep up with the latest technology, market trends and thought leaders.
9. Be present–show up, commit yourself and participate. Being late isn’t cool and being bored is your loss.
10. Be fun–take the time to laugh, giggle, twirl or jump because this year will definitely be a fun ride–hold on.
