My 10 New Years Resolutions

I’ve asked several people what their New Years resolutions were and received the same response. “I don’t put resolutions together because I usually break them.” I don’t get that because I’m all about resolutions and have been for many years.

I like the thought process behind creating resolutions which can take on many forms such as breaking bad habits (gotta stop using the F word to describe everything good, bad and ugly from now on) to the way I would like this year to unfold. Jon Mayer is asking everyone to join him on a digital cleanse from January 1-8th and this includes guidelines such as:

*email only from laptop or desktop computers

*cell phones can only be used to make calls, and no text messages or e-mails are allowed - if you receive a text, you must reply in voice over the phone. E-mails must be returned from a laptop or desktop computer.

*no use of Twitter or any other social networking site - this includes reading as well as posting.

*no visiting of any entertainment or gossip sites. (No need to detail which ones - you know what they are.)texting,

Being an entrepreneur gives me the freedom to create my working reality each year. I get to choose my clients, pick the hot spots I am willing to travel to and always create new and fun content to talk about. If I didn’t take the time to identify and clarify my goals, they would never be actualized. Plus, I need to see them, carry them around, and check them off in late December when I look back at my year.

Businessman brainstorming and writing notes

This is the time of year I’m putting together my trend report and also keep my eyes peeled for people I want to follow around this year. Here’s the  Newsweek’s New Thought Leaders for 2010  and how about the 30 most influential women in media.

Here are some of my personal and professional resolutions for this new year:

1. Ask for More- don’t accept less

2. Get a dog with short legs (not a yapper)

3. Find a charitable cause to contribute a percentage of my earnings to

4. Enter a bike race

5. Buy property in Noe Valley

6. Only engage with business partners and prospects after they have read my book

7. Get my book into every inside salesperson’s cubicle

8. Blog more, Tweet more, LinkedIn more, and YouTube more

9. Hire a marketing coordinator- scrappy, hip and quick

10. Continue to provide memorable content and value in my service offerings.
