Snippits of Sales 2.0 Conversations

Tomorrow the Sales 2.0 conference kicks off and everyone will assemble once again to pontificate on Sales 2.0- what it means, where is it going, and wondering when sales and marketing will ever really get along. As one of the founders a few years ago, I wish I could be part of this great event but my book sales are keeping me at the cash register. Cha Ching! Just found my book has hit the best selling status in the Telemarketing category.

There’s a great line-up tomorrow with your hosts, Gerhard Gschwandtner and David Thompson and speakers such as Nigel Edelshain, Anneke Seley, Pelin Wood Thorogood and Barry Trailor,

This year, everyone will hear more case studies on pipeline creations, lead management, customer engagement, and sales 2.0 processes. Not that I’m a big drinker but the cocktail party is when the real conversation happens. Sure- lots will happen on the TweetDeck too but it doesn’t beat the sound and cadence of the live conversation feed coming straight from the Chicago Fairmont Hotel. Perhaps I can recreate what that conversation would sound like:

So what’s the name of your company?

Intuitive Engine

Sweet- what’s that all about?

We are a search tool that basically sits in the frontal brain lobe and helps pump up your sales intuition. That is the area where your personality sits and clearly for lead generation and lead development teams- they need a strong personality on the pre-call and post-call part of their sales.

Wow- are you guys in start-up beta testing mode?

Microsoft is sniffing around and we are already on on second round of funding.

Who is your target audience?

Of course, any salesperson who has a brain

You mean a whole brain or half a brain?

And here’s another one….

Hi, I noticed you were blogging in the corner this morning, are you with the media

Yeah- I’m here looking for a new spin on Sales 2.0 because no one gets it, do you know what it is?

Sure, I’m here at the conference aren’t I? Look around, everyone here gets it? What’s the problem?

It’s just not sexy anymore- quite the contrary- it’s a mess and nobody knows how to fix it

Something about sales and marketing but now they don’t want to play nice anymore and hate each other

I need some type of social lubricant to help them get along because they have lost sight of what this is all about

Hey, that’s your story- The social lubricant that gets in there and makes them all get along.
