TeleSmart Communications: Inside Sales 2.0 Trend Talk

What to keep and what to toss

It’s time we loosen our tight grip. We’ve been holding on for dear life riding this tidal wave that we lost sight of when it’s time to let go. Having just surrendered to the real estate gods, I’ve put my San Francisco house on the market this week. I write this newsletter with the confidence and freedom of finally letting go and in this spirit, I want to share some wisdom and advice on the art of letting go:

  1. Don’t be stubborn, scared or stuck- It’s time to let go of stale thinking patterns and become open to new ways of thinking, doing and believing.
  2. Toss your ego out the window- What is the real reason why are holding on? If ego is involved and you are waiting for the big recognition stroke of lightening to come your way, lose that idea. You will get more from doing something that benefits others than just benefitting yourself.
  3. Stay on the development track- Any time you are faced with uncertainty, the wisest investment you can make is to keep learning, growing and developing yourself.
  4. Stop pressing the panic button- Many reasons why we are in an economic upheaval is because there is so much panic in the air. Making the right decision doesn’t come out of a panicked place but a clear place.
  5. Hold on to good talent- As some continue to downsize, your talent is your best asset. Repurpose, redistribute and resize the talent you have.
  6. Don’t blow through leads so fast- The life of a qualified lead gets shorter and shorter, establish a strong hand-off process and don’t be so quick to let it go- mainly because you may never get it back again.
  7. Park yourself in front of the socially networked and inhale- continue to keep current and stay in the loop of the conversations.
  8. Let go of your toxic boss- Managers are feeling the heat more than most right now, the pressure to increase revenues with limited tools and talent is high. Don’t take it personally and definitely don’t take on their stuff.
  9. Say yes to- new pricing structures, creative promos, bite-sized offerings, risk-taking smart renegades, mini meetings, green teams, roadside recovery tips and Twitter.
  10. Say no to- marketing departments who work against sales teams, missed deadlines, static web sites, distracting chat groups, whiney and fearful customers, texting while selling.
