Under-praised and Unprepared
As today's unemployment continues unabated, the toll it takes on the ones left standing is enormous. The pervasive "Let's just hunker down and ride this out and maybe we'll keep our jobs" attitude is destroying productivity, trust, creativity, and any hope of working smart. Especially when the majority of inside sales warriors are from Generation Me: they feel entitled to receive praise. And they should!
My observations this past year are that many sales operations have a severe deficit in terms of praise. The words are not there, the coaches are distracted, the mentors are too busy to educate, the managers continue to run scared, and the leaders seem to have a hidden agenda. All of this is understandable, but it makes the hardworking sales reps wonder why they're working so hard. Where did "Thank you" go?
People need to know how they are doing, they need to feel appreciated, and they absolutely want to receive as much praise as possible. So in the spirit of Thanksgiving and for the people who are still waiting for someone else to say thanks, I would like to share from the 67 Ways to Say Thank You and send some of my favorites your way:
